5 Ways to Help Get Rid of Dandruff

Just like the skin on our face, the scalp is influenced by many factors including hormones, the environment and the products we use on it. The scalp can also become dry, leading to flaking dandruff.

Although it can be unpleasant, dandruff is a very common skin condition. It causes white flakes on skin to appear on the scalp which can be hard to get rid, and in some cases coincide with an itchy, dry and sensitive scalp.

Luckily, there are ways to help to get rid of dandruff, and we’ve put together 5 of the best things you can do.

  1. Use hair products with natural ingredients

It is important to use products, such as your shampoo and conditioner, which are free from harsh chemicals that can dry out your scalp even further. Using haircare that contains natural ingredients ensures that the scalp is protected and prevents the appearance of dandruff. Our Reseed range of products, for men and women, contains over 50 natural ingredients and are paraben free. We use ingredients that particularly help the scalp, such as:

  • Fennel extract which soothes scalp irritations
  • Green Tea which helps keep the scalp healthy
  • Chamomile extract which purifies, balances and protects the scalp, especially when it is sensitive
  1. Wash the hair only a few times a week

To help the scalp and your hair in general, it is ideal to wash your hair about 2 or 3 times a week. This helps to keep the pH level of your scalp balanced, whereas daily washes can further aggravate a dry scalp.

  1. Avoid using hair scrubs

Although a hair scrub may feel like it is helping to rub and buff away the dry skin and unwanted flakes, it is actually causing more irritation for the scalp. Instead use a moisturising shampoo and a nourishing conditioner and gently massage the scalp when washing, to effectively combat the dandruff. If you really wish to use a scrub, make sure that is light and contains moisturising ingredients as well.

  1. Use a scalp serum or solution

A hair serum or solution is highly effective as it is applied directly to the scalp. Our R8 Botanical Solution for Men includes herbal extracts that combat dandruff and itchy scalp, and our R8 Botanical Solution for Women includes chamomile which helps soothe and protect the scalp.

  1. Take hair supplements

Just like the rest of your skin, the scalp needs the correct vitamins and nutrients to remain healthy and prevent dandruff from appearing. Our R21 Micro-Nutrients Food Supplements contain selenium, copper and several essential vitamins and nutrients. Vitamins A and E help the scalp as much as the skin on the rest of the body, to maintain its structure and moisture balance.
